Summer Eye Make-Up Trends
TRANSFORM your typical eye make-up with these fresh looks that will take you through the summer months. You can thank us later!
While we’re all going to extremes with hair-colouring trends, women can be reluctant to move away from their beloved make-up hues, particularly mascara. Coloured mascara is a great alternative for those tired of wearing black or brown mascaras, and particularly for people heading to music festivals this summer. We’re not suggesting a return to the seventies or that you channel your inner Cleopatra with a dated overall eye colour. A simple coat of mascara in midnight blue does wonders in terms of transforming your make-up look for the summer months while also creating the illusion of brighter whites of the eyes.
Choose cheaper brands, widely available in pharmacies nationwide if you’re not so sure. Our top tip is to line the eye with black kohl eyeliner, buff it out with a blending brush and finish with your new weapon. If you’re particularly nervous about making the transition, use your usual mascara as an undercoat and finish with a top coat of blue. When choosing other face makeup, keep lip colour and eye shadows to nudes or a blend of very soft browns and pinks to avoid looking like you’re dressing like a clown and place all the emphasis on your eyes! This look works best on ladies with brown or blue eyes.
The spring/summer catwalk was replete with models exhibiting heaving contouring with matching colours on eyes and cheekbones. While it may go against the rules of definition, choosing the same tones in eye-shadow and bronzer is a trend we love and surprisingly offers a ‘barefaced beauty’ look if followed through with subtly! I recommend MAC Gold Deposit Mineralise Skin Finish Highlighting Powder for that smouldering sun-kissed look, dusting under cheek bones and across the hair-line as well as your go to eye-colour. It probably works best on ladies with medium to dark skin tones while those with fairer skin can opt instead for MAC Soft and Gentle. A little goes a long way with these products and rest assured they will never ever break regardless of how many times you will drop them! Another plus of choosing a bronze glow is the instant pop it will offer the whites of your teeth.
Rather than lining the eyes with your classic black or brown kohl eye pencil, throw back to the nineties with a white colour along your waterline and into the corners of your eyes, buffing once again with a brush to achieve a fresher look, which will simultaneously widen and brighten the eye. Lauren Conrad claims this to be her ultimate hangover trick to instantly perk up the eyes! I recommend NARS Kohl in white. This particular pencil is stunning matched with either heavy brown smoky eyes using a combination of MAC Antique and All that Glitters or the more subtle shimmers of Urban Decay Naked One Palette, finishing with your favourite lengthening mascara and a coral or pink lip.
