The 10 Best Irish Instagram Accounts
WITH over 300 million users as of December last year, the popularity of photo-sharing, filter-adding app Instagram is still on the rise. An avid Instagram user myself, I find myself scrolling for hours, blissfully caught up in some heiress’ Bora Bora holiday and unaware that it’s 2am on a Monday night.
I’m addicted. I don’t think it’s a bad thing…it’s art, isn’t it?! The most popular accounts are, of course, celebrities, with Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Ariana Grande holding the most followed titles. But these aren’t my favourite to browse through. I love finding new Irish-owned photographers, people going about their everyday lives and capturing Ireland in perfectly-filtered shots. There’s yet to be a Nobel Prize for Instagram (the instagrammy, perhaps?) but if there were, we’d have some contenders. We forget sometimes how breathtaking this little island is from its big cities to quaint villages and historical landmarks to quirky street art. There’s something aesthetically pleasing for us all really.
There’s a plethora of talented Irish instagrammers and an abundance of ‘The Best Of‘ lists to go with them. I’ve decided to pick out a few of my favourites, all snapping postcard-worthy images, without the followers they deserve. It’s tough to make a list like this without leaving a few key photographers out so I have had to make the tough choice not to mention some Irish all-stars. If you’re an Irish person abroad missing home or an Internet addict who doesn’t get away from the computer enough to enjoy the sites in the first person, sit back and take it all in. This is the best of Ireland’s Instagram. The official list.*
Karen captures Dublin in a whole new light on her account. From brightly coloured streets to dodgy-looking alleys, she makes the capital look more like a movie set than real life. Perfectly timed shots of people going about their business add real character to her photos and even the pictures of the cities architecture seem so vivacious!
Stephen’s photos capture the real heart of Ireland’s capital. His talent lies in his portraits and his ability to snap human life on the streets is unrivaled. As well as his ‘Humans of Dublin’ style pictures, he also pays attention to the little details, it’s that upside street sign you might have walked past earlier that Stephen sees the beauty in.
David’s Instagram enlights and educates. He studied English literature and History and along with photos depicting his exploration of Ireland’s abandoned buildings and large houses, he also posts amazing facts and forgotten tales about his subjects. His passion shines through and it’s truly infectious.

Dangan House, Meath. This house is most famous as the childhood home of Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington – the man who beat Napoleon, invented wellies and co-wrote 'Waterloo' with ABBA. The 'Iron Duke' was born into an Anglo-Irish family and spent his early years moving between family homes in Dublin, Meath and Kildare. The house seems to have been sold, before burning down in 1840. It is located in a beautiful demesne and is still for sale as far as I'm aware #ireland #history #irishhistory #dublin #meath #summerhill #trim #dangan #urbanexploration #bighouse #decay #fire #architecture #urbex #localhistory #ruin #wellington #dukeofwellington #napoleon #waterloo #ABBA

Fashion photographer Saibh’s post aren’t just sartorial. Her eye for beauty extends to the Irish landscape, and capturing the smallest moments from her day. Expect excellently framed, well lit shots. This is a girl who knows how to take a good picture.
Darren’s professional photos will put your iPhone pics to shame. He’s particularly great at snapping the Irish wildlife and his collection makes this isle look simply majestic. Based in Dundalk but featuring places from all over the country, this guy’s feed is more than postcard-worthy. I want print outs of his eerie landscapes all over my wall.
Claire is a Donegal-reared photographer sharing architecture, animals and everything else in between. Her use of colour brightens up even the greyest of Irish days and some of her set-ups are so Lauren Conrad-esque it makes me wonder if she is actually in LA. If you aren’t following for the quality already, you must follow for her golden retriever – one of the happiest dogs I’ve ever seen!

It seems Sam likes nothing better than a good ‘aul country walk. The classic Irish landscapes he shares make me want to get out of the city so bad. A big equestrian fan, Sam shares his love of horses and the countryside through delightfully dreamy pictures.
Ronan takes a lot of amazing pictures for his stunning girlfriend Anouska’s fashion blog but it’s his photos of Dublin that will really grab your attention. Always in the right place at the right time, it seems the Irish skyline shows off for Ronan’s camera as he snaps away at the cityscape. Modern, light and minimal are how you’d describe this a mix of Anouska’s flawless street style and real Dublin landmarks.
Gavin’s pictures are often symmetrical, usually eerie and always cool. I don’t know what he’s getting up to in his spare time but I want to be there with him. Some of his shots are National Geographic level and some look like they should be in a Hitchcock horror. With over 57,000 followers, Gavin isn’t really overlooked in any way but it would have broken my heart to leave him out.
This is a repost account, sharing photos from around the country. The photos posted here make me feel like a proud patriot and make Ireland look like a fairy tale. Simply stunningly curated.
